You have to lean into the wind when you walk or you will be blown over.

Over the last few days I have been thinking a lot about what I and everyone can do to change our thinking, the way we relate to one another and the sense of community we can offer each other. Today, I want to encourage you to lean in or pay closer attention and press harder towards the things that should be and the things we want in life.
Lean in and ask questions. Start a dialogue with a coworker or neighbor.
Lean in, exchange ideas and learn something new.
Lean in and be sensitive, empathetic and compassionate.
Lean in and be open-minded & respectful of others' opinions, experiences and stories.
Lean in and support one another no matter what race, ethnicity, gender, religion or class. We are all people.
Lean in and read a book. Don't believe everything you hear and see in the media.
Lean in and hold your local elected officials and your community leaders accountable.
Lean in and look at my son's face. Look closer. He is not a criminal. He deserves to be looked at as a child, not a threat.
Lean in and respect my husband and the work he continues to do as an educator, community leader, mentor and person who happens to be black.
Lean in and think before you act.
Lean in and just listen.
Lean in because the world is watching.
Lean in because our children are watching. Whatever we teach them will be carried on into the next generation. Good and bad.
Lean in because we all deserve to be heard when we choose to express ourselves through song, art and protest.
Lean in because we are not this America.
