Have you ever wondered about the meaning behind the name of my doula business? It has taken me a long time to verbalize and express the full meaning and I thought I would share it with you today.
In early 2015, I attended my very first doula training after two years of researching and planning my transition into entrepreneurship. Working as a professional nanny for 10 years had been an amazing experience, but I wanted more. I wanted to offer more to the families I was working with. And I also wanted more for my own family. I wanted to build a long lasting legacy rooted in community and support. Over the last 5 ½ years, Best of Both Worlds Doula Services has become so much more than I ever dreamed. My early years of both motherhood and business proved to be more than a challenge, but as I navigated my way through milestones & memories, I grew more confident in my abilities as a natural caregiver. I have seen the good, the bad and everything in between serving various family dynamics. If I haven't experienced it firsthand, I know someone who has and I have assisted them through the learning process. Best of Both Worlds Doula Services is where Passion meets purpose... Faith meets fulfillment... Knowledge meets experience... Tradition meets modern... Empowerment meets advocacy... Commitment meets community... With 20 years of experience in me, you can guarantee top notch support & care from a family expert. I understand how unique each family dynamic is and I will meet you where you are and provide quality service to ensure that your family will thrive. THE TEA IS BREWING!
Who wants some? BLACK TEA was an idea that came to me a couple of weeks ago. It was a cross between a need for me to connect with my people in the age of COVID-19 & social injustice and also create a space for black folx to share, explore, learn, grow, heal, be inspired and just be. My first three interviews weren't actually from my account because I have been having Instagram tech issues for months. But things are working well now so I'm not wasting any time! Who can be a guest? I'm looking for black and brown:
Generally, the chats have covered the guests' business/expertise, family/life in the age of C-19, mental health and the current social & political climate. It is a very informal and "go with the flow" type of interview. I am looking forward to catching up with old friends, getting to know new ones and sharing our stories of success, struggle, pain, purpose, business, blackness and everything in between! I hope to provide open and honest conversations filled with comfort, hope, knowledge, connection and positive energy exchanges. I can tell from the reactions to the invites I've sent to potential guests that these chats will be very necessary. It is important that we take the time to express our feelings and be able to do so in a safe space. I couldn't be more excited about what's in store and what will transpire. Now more than ever we need more black spaces to share our own stories and connect with one another and I'm happy to be a facilitator. If you are interested in being a Black Tea guest to share your story, experience and/or professional expertise, please email me with subject line Black Tea Guest. BLACK TEA SPONSORS! If you are a tea brand who would like to sponsor gifts for my guests and giveaways for my followers, please reach out to me. I would love to promote your products and accessories. Black owned and BLM supporters preferred. Click here to view Black Tea IG Live Chats! With Mother's Day quickly approaching, I wanted to do something special for other moms this year. Through social media, networking meetups and various events, I have met dozens of mothers over the past year. I have listened to your stories about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, returning to work, infant milestones and more. And honestly, most of us have the same story: we love our families, but we wish we had a little more time for ourselves.
So I am hosting a Mother's Day Giveaway! The giveaway will be geared towards new and expectant mothers, but the truth is that ANY mother will be able to use the products and services that will be presented in a lovely gift basket!

Please be advised that I will need your donation by Saturday, April 30th. Best of luck and Happy Mother's Day!! The first quarter of 2016 is officially over and this week I spent some time analyzing how successful I was at reaching the goals I set at the beginning of the year.
This is how I graded myself:
Not terrible, right? I am going to be honest, I struggled to balance work and family life during the first couple of months. For some reason, I couldn't find my way out of the life-sucking holiday fog. But at the end of February, it finally occurred to me that I needed to start from scratch and concentrate on just a few simple, but important things. At the top of my list was networking. This was seemingly the main obstacle that was prohibiting me from moving forward with my business. In the month of March, I made it my top priority to connect with as many people and (female) business owners as possible. Within days, I was setting up multiple phone calls and meetings. This was just the boost I needed! I am happy (and relieved) to say that the month of April is looking very promising for me and my business. During this time, I also made some business and personal connections that led me to make a major decision. After a few weeks of contemplating, I am now excited to offer Companion Care services! I am always thinking about how I can help families beyond the infant & toddler years and because of the people I have the pleasure to work and volunteer with (families, children and seniors), this decision was my next natural step to grow my business. Companion Care services will be available starting today for any mature adult living in the Triangle area. I want to provide private assistance and friendship to the senior community at an affordable rate. To learn more about this service and others, please visit Services & Packages.
